Overland Journey Activity Guide

Overland journeys through South America are synonymous with adventure, wildlife and new exciting landscapes! Cascada offers two overland tours at Chile’s two extremes, one leading into the vast salt flats of Bolivia and the other continuing through the Patagonian wilderness into Argentina.

In Chile’s northern sector lies the famous Atacama Desert, lined with sand dunes, indigenous architecture and an array of wildlife ranging from llamas and vicunas to Andean flamingos. Cascada’s Bolivia Uyuni Connection 4 day Explorer provides a wonderful opportunity to travel from San Pedro de Atacama across the border into Bolivia and onwards through the infinite white salt flats in Uyuni. Unique local hotels, strange geology and beautiful volcanoes & lagoons make this extension an unforgettable overland journey.

From the northern Atacama desert to the snow capped south, there are plenty of opportunities to cross over into Argentina. Due to Chile’s thinness, border crossings into Argentina tend to be just an hour away (or even less) from the main highway running down Chile’s spine. Popular border crossings which can be done by bus or in private vehicles include the crossing from Santiago to Mendoza, Chile’s lake district to San Martin de los Andes or San Carlos de Bariloche and various points along the Carretera Austral.

At Chile’s southern extreme lies Patagonia, land of icy glaciers, jagged mountains, rustled plains and open wilderness. Cascada’s Patagonia United 8 day Tour takes adventurers from EcoCamp Patagonia in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park across the border into Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina to see Perito Moreno glacier near el Calafate and Mount Fitz Roy near el Chalten. There is also a premium version of the tour including a stay in Ecocamp Suite Domes and 4* hotels & private services in Argentina.
